What is the “EIFFYRH” rule?

EIFFYRH stands for “Eat if and only if (iff) You’re Really Hungry”.  You apply it to decide WHEN to eat.

What is the “CUDRIS” rule?

CUDRIS stands for “Chew Until Diminished Reduction In Size”.  This is HOW you should eat.

How can I tell if I am hungry for real?

Often, a sense of craving for something (almost anything) in the mouth may be mistaken for hunger.  When this occurs to me, I usually just drink some water (or tea), which causes the (false) sense of hunger to go away. This feeling may repeat a few times before the sense of hunger becomes real – you can easily tell the difference now.

If I follow EIFFYRH, will I still have a regular three meals a day?

Actually, you may well end up with three meals a day, and at around the usual meal time, when you do follow the two rules.  The first few days may be a bit disruptive, but the disruption will not last long.

I will eat all day long if I eat when hungry because I feel hungry all the time!  What should I do?

Learn to tell the false sense of hunger from the real one.  Refer to “How can I tell if I am hungry for real or not?” above.

I gained a few pounds after a trip.  What should I do?

Just follow the two rules.  You will see the weight go back to equilibrium level fairly quickly, usually in a few weeks.

How quickly will I lose weight?

It varies from person to person.  In my own experience, I was losing 2-3 pounds every week for the first two months or so, which totaled about 20 pounds.  The pace slowed down to about 1 pound per month afterwards. All in all, it took over a year or so for my weight to settle at an equilibrium level.

When should I eat fruits?

Eat fruits like you would any other kind of food — just stick to the same two rules.

I have a business dinner with a customer.  I am not hungry yet. What should I do?

Obviously, it would be impolite not to eat at such a dinner.  Order the smallest entry possible that you’d be ok with, then closely follow the 2nd rule (CUDRIS).  Pack your leftovers to enjoy later.  Then, be sure to stick to the 1st rule (EIFFYRH) for when to eat your next meal.

When should I finish eating?

You stop eating when you don’t feel like eating anymore.  Just like you quit eating eventually even at a buffet, you get to that point now by doing CUDRIS to avoid overeating.

Do I need to exercise to control weight?

Exercise is good for your health.  But it is not required for weight control.

Do I need to eat healthy food to control weight?

Eating “healthy food” or not has nothing to do with weight control.
